A leader in the home building industry for over 40 years and current Life-Director of the NAHB, Norman S. Cohen possesses unparalleled expertise in the challenges today’s professionals face. Now, he is bringing this uniquely powerful perspective to the leadership-training arena.
Norman began his career in retailing, after receiving his BA degree in Marketing at the University of Missouri. He spent five years with May Department stores in St. Louis before joining the family building business in 1972, as Field Superintendent. Cohen oversaw the development of single-family, multi-family and light commercial projects for the family firm before serving as a Senior Project Manager for the Kiawah Island Company, in Charleston, SC. He relocated to Atlanta as a Director of Development for Arvida Corporation.
In 1984, as Vice President of Construction/Development for Club Properties, Inc., Norman developed over 3,000 multi-family units. He later served as President of John Wieland Homes Southeast, and was responsible for opening offices in six southeastern cities. In May of 2000, after opening his own custom building company, Norman joined Camelot/Signature Homes as Managing Partner and developed single-level Active Adult condominiums and homes in Atlanta, Georgia and Hilton Head Island, SC.
Norman has served on several NAHB national committees and is the former Chairman of the NAHB 50+ Housing Council, former Chairman of Builder 20 and a former member of the NAHB Executive Committee, as well as the Georgia Home Builders Association. He continues to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of NAHB. He also served a three-year term as President of Temple Emanu-El of Atlanta and sits on the board of The Brad Cohen Tourette Foundation.
Currently, Norman is an Independent Certified Coach, Teacher and Speaker with the John C Maxwell Team, and operates offices in Atlanta and Hilton Head, SC.
Norman has been married to his wife Diane for 25 years and has two adult sons and five grandchildren.
